Jadwanin Land Contract

The earliest Jadwanin land contract, dated 23 August 1857 - I believe Glenn Penner paid for the original document and had it translated so I cannot reproduce it here.  Zhytomyr Archives, F58_D1_A1099.

There was originally a contract signed for Jadwanin land between the owner, Maximilian Jablonowsky, and 15 Mennonite household heads, on 10 September 1834.  The contract describes the land tract and gives the Mennonites (residents from Karolswalde) permission to build houses on 15 morgen of land.  A certain period of tax exemption passed and then they would owe rent to the landlord, in 1857, Duchess Ludgarda, daughter of Venedikt, Jablonovska.

Land contracts were set up in 20-year terms and gave the Mennonites certain rights/benefits regarding wood collection, alcoholic consumption, the raising of bees, as well as other points.  Annual rent would be due on June 24.

Mennonite signatories were Heinrich Dirks, Peter Richert, Peter Schmidt, Abraham Unruh, Jacob Schmidt, Benjamin Unruh,  Heinrich Unruh, David Wedel, Andreas Jantz, Peter Unruh, Wilhelm Decker, Andreas Unruh, Jacob Voth or Boese, Johann Rudiger, and Heinrich Unruh.
